This weekend thousands of runners will cross the world famous finish line of the London Marathon 2017 .

Looking good for the cameras may be the last thing on runner’s minds, but staying comfy and injury-free is essential.

Make sure your kit is working with you and not against you, whether you’re running the big one this weekend or have simply been inspired to pound the pavements.

Here are a few of our running essentials for seasoned pros or newbies wanting to getting involved.

1. Asics Gel Kayano 23 Trainers, £145, Asics.com

If you spend money on one piece of kit, make sure it’s your trainers. A decent pair is the difference between feeling like you’re Paula Radcliffe and feeling like a sack of potatoes.

As any serious runner knows, Asics are the best shout for staying well supported and light-footed throughout the gruelling 26.2 mile course.

2. Virgin Money London Marathon Official Women’s Supernova 3/4 tights, £45

There are two big things we look for in a pair of running tights: they mustn’t slide down as we run, and they mustn’t be see-through! These official London Marathon tights from Adidas tick all the boxes, as well as keeping us cool and dry.

3. North Ridge Women’s Rad Hoodie, £40, Go Outdoors

Keeping warm at the start and finish lines is essential. Snuggle up in this stylish and cosy hoodie while you do your stretches (just make time you have time to stash it in your kit bag or toss it to a friend or family member!)

4. Nike Dry City Tank, £25, JD Sports

Stay cool and comfortable with this racer back top. Don’t forget to have your name printed on the front so the crowd can give you a cheer!

5. OPTOMA NuForce Wireless Noise-Cancelling Headphones, £59.99, Curry’s

As incredible as the crowds are on the big day, they’ll be times when you need a pick me up tune or two. These wireless earphones will deliver top sound quality without interfering with your running.
